Your Data at Ottercedarwhirl

This notice explains the handling of personal information connected with this website and correspondence with the research desk.

Who is responsible?

Ottercedarwhirl Research Ltd is responsible for personal information handled for this website and its editorial correspondence. Our registered office is 18 Bridge Street, Cambridge, CB2 1UF, United Kingdom; company no. 14826371. Privacy enquiries can be sent to [email protected].

Reading the website

The site uses local styles, scripts and images rather than third-party embeds, external fonts or analytics scripts. Ordinary website delivery can involve technical information such as IP addresses, requested URLs, timestamps and browser information in hosting or security logs. Such data is used where necessary to deliver, protect and troubleshoot the service, on the basis of legitimate interests in a secure, functioning website.

Message composer and email

Text entered into the contact composer is processed in your browser. The tool does not upload the draft or send a message. Copy places text on your device’s clipboard when permission is available. Download creates a local text file. Other applications or people with access to your device may be able to access clipboard contents or downloaded files.

If you send an email, we receive your address, message, any attachments and the information you choose to include. We use this to consider your enquiry, respond where appropriate and keep a relevant correspondence record. The usual basis is our legitimate interest in handling editorial enquiries and corrections; where applicable, processing may also be needed to meet a legal obligation.

Browser preferences

The cookie-choice controls store a preference in localStorage. They do not store your message or create an advertising profile. See Cookie Choices Explained for the key, purpose and removal options.

Sharing and international processing

Hosting and email service providers may process information needed to deliver their services. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or needed to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. Where service-provider processing involves international transfers, applicable legal safeguards must be used.

Retention and security

Correspondence is kept only as long as reasonably needed to handle the matter, maintain a relevant editorial record or meet legal requirements. Technical logs should be limited to what is needed for security and operation. Retention may differ by purpose; you can ask about information relating to you. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

Your rights

Subject to the applicable law and its conditions, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of personal information, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. If processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing. We may need proportionate information to verify a request.

Contact the desk to exercise a right or raise a concern. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office, or another competent supervisory authority where applicable. There is no solely automated decision-making with legal or similarly significant effects in the tools supplied on this site.
